1866-1944, age 77, born in moscow, russia. he was a russian painter and art theorist. he is credited as one of the pioneers of abstraction. he studied and settled in munich germany, teaching at the bauhaus school of art and architecture 1922-1933 when the nazi administration closed the school. he moved to france becoming a french citizen.
