journaling life

journaling life

through the lens of my fifty years immersive experience with journaling i present four chapters to help the sometimes difficult and intimidating approach to this life practice. journaling will not fix you. however the process of journaling can help fix you.
it works best when your motivation is clear - to commemorate, to examine, to chronicle or to simply connect to yourself.

chapter 1
finding my voice

Finding your voice means learning to join your deepest most authentic thoughts & feelings you speak or write into one instrument – the voice. The voice that searches, finds, defines and emerges from your subconscious mind and life experience…that one!

chapter 2
my objective journaling

In text-journals I migrated from scribbling in a notebook, to writing on lined paper-pads, then tapped on typewriter, then computer keyboard; In audio-journals, with handheld audio-recorder or smart phone; And in video-journals, recording to camera or smart phone and editing. I record in all three methods.

chapter 3
my subjective journaling

Having lived a long life, I have gone through many developmental stages. I have interacted with a lot of people - lovers, family, children and had many professions. journaling helped me characterize those stages, make sense of these interactions and identify my changing self.

chapter 4
my journaling history

Being a teenage immigrant, to assimilate, learn new language and culture, and the need to find affinity with people, work and places to live, was the struggle that led me at age 25 to psychotherapy. Since then, in one thousand sessions over 60 years, I have had to turn inward to stabilize and identify myself. The dialogue in the session is my model for my journaling.
