a welsh poet, writer and book-tour reader. 'under milk wood' and 'do not go gentle into that good night' are two of his best-known poems, and the radio broadcast 'portrait of the artist as a young dog'. he acquired a reputation as 'roistering, drunken and doomed poet.' he was born in swansea, wales in 1914. died 1953 in new york, age 39.
